What is CBN?

Cannabinol (CBN) is the first active compound discovered in cannabis, dating back to 1896. However, it wasn’t until 1940 that the properties of CBN were thoroughly mapped out. CBN is formed when cannabis is heated and exposed to oxygen, resulting in the oxidation of THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis responsible for a stoned or high feeling).

During this oxidation process, THC transforms into CBN, making CBN essentially the end product of THC. CBN is primarily found in older cannabis plants.

Cannabinoids undergo continuous changes due to exposure to various environmental factors. For instance, THC and CBD originate from cannabigerol (CBG), but this occurs at an earlier stage. The significant difference between CBD and CBN is that CBN directly binds to cannabinoid receptors in our body, interacting with our endocannabinoid system in a different way.

What is CBN Oil?

CBN oil is a carrier oil to which CBN has been added. The carrier oil can be hemp oil, olive oil, or sunflower oil. In broad terms, the production of CBN oil is similar to that of CBD oil, with the main distinction lying in the type of cannabis used. Since industrial hemp and ‘coffeeshop weed’ often contain minimal CBN, specially cultivated CBN cannabis is typically used to produce CBN oil. By creating the right conditions, these plants produce a significant amount of CBN. Synthetic CBN is also increasingly available in the market. For an optimal CBN experience, it is recommended to choose natural-quality CBN.

CBN Oil Effects

Initially considered an unnecessary byproduct, CBN is now believed to be the most calming of all cannabinoids. CBN has mild psychoactive properties, not inducing a high, but it is known for its calming and sedative (pain-relieving) effects.

Similar to other cannabinoids, CBN influences our endocannabinoid system (ECS), regulating various crucial bodily processes and playing a significant role in maintaining balance. CBN, recognized as a natural substance, can enhance the healing effects of the endocannabinoid system. The ECS regulates aspects such as sleep, digestion, appetite, motor skills, memory, and blood pressure. As CBN oil interacts with the body’s natural system, its effects are diverse, potentially addressing chronic pain, sleep issues, anxiety, and depression. CBN enhances the healing capabilities of the body.

Additional Effects

Another aspect of CBN is its influence on the functioning of other cannabinoids. The combined use of cannabinoids is known to strengthen their mutual effects, referred to as the entourage effect. Choosing a CBN oil containing other cannabinoids (such as CBD) and additional plant compounds (such as terpenes) is termed full-spectrum oil.

CBN Oil Experiences

Cannabinol has been subject to considerable research, even involving human participants, shedding light on how this cannabinoid works in our bodies. There are indications that individuals dealing with sleep problems, stress, or infections may benefit from CBN. However, more research is needed before CBN can be classified as a registered medicine. With an increasing number of studies, new insights are expected.

Reviews and online forums share experiences with CBN oil. Quick searches reveal mentions of increased calmness and improved sleep. As far as is known, CBN has no significant side effects, but fatigue and changes in appetite may occur. Exercise caution when using CBN alongside THC oil, as CBN can enhance the effects of THC.

Using CBN Oil

The use of CBN as CBN oil is entirely legal. In essence, you can use and dose CBN similarly to CBD oil. It is recommended to opt for full-spectrum oil to maximize the positive effects. If using CBN for better sleep, taking CBN oil about half an hour before bedtime is suggested.

Start with a few drops and gradually increase the dosage. Apply the CBN drops directly under your tongue, where it is absorbed directly by the mucous membranes. Let the drops take effect for about half a minute before swallowing. The effects of CBN oil (after oral intake) last approximately 5 hours. Build up the intake gradually until you become accustomed to the effects.

Make the Most of It

Using CBN is safe, and there is essentially no risk of overdose. However, it is advisable to use CBN and CBD oil consciously. The right dosage of CBD oil is crucial, and using a high-quality oil that aligns with your desired effects is recommended.
